EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF MISSISSAUGA
CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF MISSISSAUGA - FOR YOUR INFORMATION

INFORMATION UPDATE

Ever since the "Machinists" Union (I.A.M.) has organized the Custodians and Maintenance of the City of Mississauga, the City has been initiating and condoning a series of hostile and unfair labour practices against our members for choosing to belong to a free and democratic Union guaranteed under our Canadian Rights of Freedom of Association.  As the City has no remorse and is unwilling to satisfactorily resolve these issues to the mutual satisfaction of the parties, the Union has had no other choice but to file several complaints with the Ontario Labour Relations Board to deal with these very serious issues.

Bargaining - To date the I.A.M. has had several bargaining sessions with the City but has made little progress in reaching a fair and equitable Collective Agreement.  However, the 'City' in our view has been dragging their heels in negotiating a fair contract and would rather spend their efforts in spreading animosity among its employees to divide and play them against each other.

Organizing - Despite the City's promises on their commitment to improve employee satisfaction with a comprehensive review of compensation policies, their unfair hostile actions against a group of I.A.M. employees indicate they are not to be believed. Who is next?   The truth is, this is just a tactic to stop the I.A.M. organizing drive and to deter other employees from joining your fellow workers who are now members of the I.A.M. Ask yourself, if they were being honest, why is the City not prepared to negotiate a fair contract with its employees?

The Future - many other workers have expressed an interest of joining the I.A.M.  Only through Collective Bargaining can you guarantee through negotiating a Collective Agreement better working conditions, fair wages and benefits and an improved relationship with your employer.  Remember, Bargain, don't Beg.  Become a member of the I.A.M. and exercise your right to join an organization that protects your interests.

In the I.A.M. - our motto is

 JUSTICE ON THE JOB
SECURITY FOR THE FAMILY
SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY.

Join your fellow workers and us by signing a Union card today.
Put the future in your hands.
