"RAILROADING IN THE GOLDEN HORSESHOE
VOLUME VI
THE NEW YORK CENTRAL'S
CANADA SOUTHERN
1943-1976
It's hard to imagine that the legendary New York
Central actually passed right through our own backyard!
Now, for the first time the Canada Southern story
unfolds before us in colour and sound, accompanied by an
informative narration.
Relive the post-war era when J-Class Hudsons,
Pacifics, husky Mikados and Consols, and 0-8-0 switchers
paraded over the "CaSo" across the Golden Horseshoe.
More than a dozen photographers take us to Niagara
Falls and Buffalo terminal, to Montrose and Fort Erie
yards, and along the high iron to Black Rock, Welland,
Canfield Junction, Hagersville, Waterford, Tilbury, Comber
and Woodslee.
The diesel era proved no less fascinating! A
variety of first-generation diesels, clad in the Central's
famous "lightning stripes,", now spearheaded the fast
passenger, mail, express, flexivan and manifest freight
trains. Then came a new generation of chopped-nose
diesels, painted in the austere "cigar-band" image that
marked a New York Central under financial siege.
Finally, witness the controversial Penn Central
merger, followed shortly by a railroad bankruptcy of
unprecedented scope that brought about the demise of the
intertwined PC and the advent of Conrail blue and Amtrak
platinum mist on the Canada Southern."]

"Experience Canadian railroading at its best!
Some of Canada's most exciting railroading comes alive in
Canadian Crossroads. This video tour takes you to
the busy main lines between Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario.
In the spotlight, Bayview Junction - Canada's most famous
train-watching location - is set against the splendid
backdrop of the famed Royal Botanical Gardens. In addition
to heavy-duty freight trains of Canadian National and
Canadian Pacific, you'll see the hardworking passenger
trains operated by VIA Rail, Amtrak, and GO transit.

"The CN "F" units arrived at the Great Lakes Region from
Edmonton in early 1986. Due to their old age and their
great ability to handle bad weather, which Lake Erie and
Nanticoke are noted for, these engines were selected for
the Nanticoke run.
This video includes cab ride and line shots in some of
Southern Ontario's finest scenery. Written narration and

"Nothing can bring a steam locomotive to life as much
as a crisp, sunny winter's day. Trailing a billowing
plume, with steam condensing from every valve, the steam
engine in full flight amidst the sparkling white
winterscape evokes an unforgettable image of graceful
majesty.
JUST IMAGINE is thrilled to have you join us on an
exciting winter odyssey spanning three decades of
railroading, culled from the work of nearly two dozen
photographers.
Your journey vovers the length and breadth of the
Golden Horseshoe, featuring action at: Bayview Jtn.,
Burlington, Caledonia, Campbellville, Canfield Jtn.,
Dundas, Fort Erie, Galt, Grimsby, Guelph Jtn., Hamilton,
Kitchener, Niagara Falls and Woodslee.
Mainline passenger and freight traffic, branchline
locals, switching assignments and plow extras parade past
on Nature's stage against spectacular winter backdrops.
We're sure you'll agree that Volume III of the
Railroading In The Golden Horseshoe
series is a must!]

"Trains on Video"
by Gary W. Dolzall
in Trains April 1988 page 61:
"As a sequel to its 1985 release, The Glory Machines
(a video scrapbook of railroad action, 1928-1952),
Herron Rail Services now offers
The Glory Machines, Volume II.
Featuring the films of C. H. Snyder and others,
Volume II is a menagerie of 1944-1962 action
on 26 railroads. Motive power is the emphasis,
hence details such as locations of scenes are often lacking
in the narration. But forgive taht, because the film
footage (the majority in color) is high quality and well
reproduced, and the subject matter is, at times, boggling.
Except for a somewhat out-of-place foray into Rio Grande
narrow-gauge territory at its conclusion, this video is all
from the East, Midwest, and South. It includes scenes of
locomotives as diverse as Boston & Maine Moguls, Virginian
FM Train Masters, Florida East Coast E7's, and a Toledo,
Peoria & Western 4-8-4. More than a few sequences are so
rare that one can't help but be surprised that they exist
on film: Norfolk & Western's steam-turbine-electric
Jawn Henry in pusher service,
New York Central's lightweight diesel Xplorer at
speed,
Pennsy and AT&SF 2-10-4's doubleheading in Ohio,
and B&O's historic EMC "Dilworth" box-cab No. 50 hustling
over the Alton.
If you're interested in the steam-to-diesel era, it's hard
not to find something to like in this video."
