8:30-3 Toronto Toronto Prototype Modellers Meet Humber College, North Campus, Building B, Rooms B215-216, 205 Humber College Blvd
  • Enjoy several clinics by prototype modellers:
          - Jeff Pinchbeck: Railway Drawings - an introduction on railway drawings, document names and purpose; different types of drawings, document chains and the information that can be found on them; centred on CPR documentation, with other sources to show the similarities and broad categories of information available; and an introduction to archives and museums that have materials available for the researcher.
          - James Whatley: Building a Prototype-Specific Freight Car from a Generic Kit - making a Canada Southern covered hopper from a Tichy USRA twin hopper kit; prototype started out as a NYC twin hopper, which the NYC converted to a covered hopper and later transferred to the CASO, so the project actually represents a “prototype kitbash” as well; emphasizing tools and techniques required including painting and weathering and is therefore applicable to any similar project.
          - John Brown: A Trip to Chicago, 1960 - a slide show of a trip to Chicago in 1960 while serving his apprenticeship; from Union Station to Winnipeg on the Dominion as he was a CPR fan; overnight in Winnipeg then the NP to St Paul; overnight then to Chicago on the CB&Q; a couple of nights in the YMCA near the main Passenger stations; then home on the GTW-CNR.
  • Each attendee is encouraged to contribute to this unique learning experience by bringing a model, whether completed or not.

  • Fare: $10. Free parking.
