The mainline originally went to Amherstburg not Windsor,
until the Windsor route was opened December 31, 1882
using ferries to Detroit. Later the tunnel was built.

About 1970 the villages of Old Niagara, Virgil, St. David's, Glendale and Queenston were amalgamated into Niagara-On-The-Lake. John Street and Queen Street are in Niagara-On-The-Lake.
Part of this branch was shared with the
electrified Niagara, St. Catherine's & Toronto Railway.

The London branch used London and Port Stanley Railway tracks from St. Thomas to London, entering London from the south between Wellington Road and Adelaide Street then curving west about where the current CN tracks are. The station was approximately (just south of) where the current CN station is.

This was originally the western end of the main line, until the Windsor route was opened December 31, 1882.
Car ferries were used to move cards from Gordon
to Stoney Island, then rail was used across
Grosse Ile and a bridge to the Michigan shore
and to Detroit.
